From one of our clients, January 2024…Imagine ordering your church from a purported national leader and advocate of 501(c)(3) formation and find out after you paid that they set up an “Accountability Board” that is authorized to remove the pastor. This board is separate and distinct from the board of directors.
That’s right… the formation documents will include language that establishes and authorizes a separate board that is made up of non-members of the church who are given authority to remove the pastor. These promoters say they don’t like to do this, but the IRS requires this for churches and the approval of the 501(c)(3) application.
Build a better church. God does not call for the church leadership to be controlled or influenced by outside boards like this.
